By the order of the head of state, the construction of the Republican Clinical Hospital began in Astana. The object was built by the British company “Fitzpatrick Contractors” on the model of the royal clinic in England.
The opening took place in September 2001. Since that time, the status of the clinic has changed twice: from the Republican Clinical Hospital to the Republican State Enterprise (2003), then to the “National Scientific Medical Center” JSC (2010).
Since 2005 the “NSMC” JSC is the headquarters of the Euro-Asian Respiratory Society (EARS). Due to this activity, in 2007 the Republic of Kazakhstan became a member of the Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD), a division of the World Health Organization. In October 2007, the “Health Assembly” Foundation, with the support of the WHO and the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Russian Federation, awarded the “NSMC” JSC the title of laureate of the International Prize in the nomination "For Contribution to Healthcare Development".
To implement the development strategy of cardiac surgery service in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Cardiac Surgery Service was opened at the National Scientific Medical Center in 2003, where the first open-heart surgery was performed in April 2004. Less than a year later, in February 2005, an intervention was performed to install a coronary stent. The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and the second Department of Cardiac Surgery for Adults were opened in 2008, the Department of Interventional Cardiology - in 2010, Arrhythmology Department - in 2012.
Realizing strategic goals to reduce mortality from the circulatory diseases, since 2009 the center coordinated all the cardiological and cardiosurgical services of the country. Employees of the “NSMC” JSC contributed to the opening of cardiac centers in all regions of Kazakhstan and in two large cities - Astana and Almaty, transferring high technologies and training personnel for new clinics. The specialists of our center have developed and implemented standards for managing patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Since 2012 the “NSMC” JSC performs organ and cell transplantation surgeries, by the FDA decision, our center was included in the database of safe clinics for international research. Realizing the importance of providing quality medical services, the “NSMC” JSC strives to become competitive in the global market and meet all international quality standards in its field, developing and constantly improving the management system. In June 2010 the "NSMC" JSC was certified for the "Recognized Excellence - 4 Stars" level, and in November 2012 - for the "Recognized Excellence - 5 Stars" level of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model.
In addition, the “NSMC” JSC has implemented international standards for diagnostic laboratories: external quality assessment EQAS by BIO-Rad (USA), national accreditation standards for medical organizations. The center was one of the first to receive a certificate with a result of the compliance of medical services by 98.7% according to the accreditation standards of the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2010, the European Business Association and the European Union Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized the "NSMC" JSC as the "Best European Enterprise in medicine" by awarding an appropriate diploma. In 2012, the “NSMC” JSC became the award winner of the Asian Network for Quality (ANQ, Hong Kong); in 2014 — was awarded the "Paryz" award for the introduction of new technologies in the field of medicine, the European award for best practice (Brussels) and the European award for quality (Italy). In the same year, the center's specialists presented new research on the use of HIFU therapy in the treatment of parasitic diseases of internal organs and received the European Prize “For Quality Innovation”.
The Center develops and implements the most relevant areas of healthcare and medical science in Kazakhstan. Using transplantation of various types of stem cells within the framework of highly specialized medical care allows solving complex problems of internal diseases and surgery. By decision of the FDA (USA), the “NSMC” JSC was included in the database of safe clinics for conducting international clinical trials.
The “NSMC” JSC applies the principles and mechanisms of effective corporate management:
- There is an integrated management system based on the Conceptual approaches and criteria of the EFQM Model, process and system approaches, and business processes are managed according to the goals and performance indicators.
- Management is constantly being improved, the requirements of MS ISO 9001, MS ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001, ISO 31000, ISO 26000 and ISO 27000 have been gradually introduced, external assessment of the conformity of certified management subsystems is carried out in the prescribed manner.
- Highly qualified personnel, committed to the ideas of quality, constantly improving the quality of knowledge both in management and in the profession, 41 specialists from the Center are certified by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM, EOQ).
